Behind the scenes in Cambodia

Me photographing the monk

Well, I am still working my way through the 565 images I have selected to be edited properly from Cambodia. Its a long slog to get all of them done, but I am doing on average 5-10 per day at the moment, so I have a way to go yet! I think I may have to book some holiday time away from work just to sit in front of the mac for a week! Anyway, a few images have gone forward to the national awards now, and while I was editing them, I found some images taken by my guide on my gf1 behind the scenes while I was shooting. So I figured it may be nice to show a few here and the results from them too. So without...

A slight delay

Apologies to those of you waiting to see the images from Cambodia, but due to serious personal issues I have had to put the processing of these images and my Fellowship application on hold. I hope to start work on the images soon, but for now I have to put the photography on hold while other things take priority. As soon as the images are ready, I will update my portfolio and let you all know. Thanks everyone :)

My time in Cambodia is coming to an end

And that really is a shame. I don't want to leave yet as I feel I have only just scratched the surface of this amazing country. Its been a few days since I have updated my blog or posted any photos of my travels, so now that I have found internet access in the pouring tropical rain, I shall sit here with my frosty glass of Tiger beer in this little french restaurant in Phnom Penh and try to think back over the last few days. When I last posted, I was really just getting into the exploration of the temple complex of Angkor . Honestly, from the tourist areas to the more remote temples, you will...

The temples of Angkor

Angkor Wat

I have spent 2 days in Siem Reap trekking around the temples of the Angkor complex. It truly is an incredible place to be, with architecture from over a thousand years ago still standing up to the test of time. It seems that nearly every inch of the temples has been carved by hand, and the detail in these intricate carvings is quite amazing. The walls of the temples tell the history of Cambodia, with stories of war, kings of old and gods of men. Luckily my local guide knows much about these ancient temples, and a whilst we walk among them he is regaling me of his countries past. Here are a few quick...

An amazing photoshoot today

Young Monk at Angkor Wat

Whilst I was at the temple of Angkor Wat today, my guide and I asked the local abbot of the monastary if I could have his permission to photograph the monks around the temple. After a quick exchange with my guide, he offered in exchange for a donation to the monastary one of his younger monks to accompany me around the temple for a photoshoot. Well, that was an opportunity that I was not going to pass up! So accompanying me around the huge Angkor Wat was my new found Bhuddist model. He was such a friendly guy, and we both had a real blast taking a bunch of photos. There was much laughter...

Me at a hidden 11th century temple in the jungle

Honestly, that just about sums up how I feel right now! I wanted to update my blog on a day by day basis, but I just haven't had the time. I have horrendous jet lag, I haven't slept properly in 3 days, I have no appetite and am struggling to eat food and to top it all off, its just too damn humid! Seriously, I have never encountered humidity like it before, as soon as I walk outside my cameras and lenses are covered in moisture and constantly steam up (thank god for weather sealing). Thats not the biggest problem though, the biggest problem for me is lugging around my camera bag, with 5 heavy...

An amazing video about macro photography

Its not often I will show work from other photographers on my own website, but I stumbled upon this amazing video on macro photography whilst I was browsing the web, and I was so amazed that I just had to show it here. It is also rather nice to see someone producing amazing results using really basic equipment, which just goes to show that you don't need high end expensive gear to take amazing photographs. Videos like this make me want to have a go at macro photography myself ;)

Shortlisted for the BIPP Regional Awards

Well, I just received a nice letter in the post today telling me that I have been shortlisted for the BIPP (British Institute of Professional Photography) South East regional awards. I entered a couple of images from Africa, plus some of my more recent commissions. Three of my images have been shortlisted for the final award presentation, which I must say is all rather exciting. Guess I had better dust of my Sunday best's then ready for the awards presentation!

Almost time for Cambodia… plus itinerary

Well, less than 3 weeks to go now until I head out on my next photographic adventure, this time to the jungles of Cambodia. I am focusing on not only building some more stock library images, but also to create my panel for my BIPP Fellowship assessment in November. I will be travelling on my own for this trip, with a guide to show me around the country. My base of operations will be Siem Reap and Phnom Penh where I shall hopefully be managing to get a good nights sleep in a good hotel each night :) I will be taking in most of the main sights of Cambodia, plus going off the beaten track a little...
